Left Iris Are Dublin's Most Exciting Dream Pop Export — And 'Heart and Soul' Proves It

The Irish-Spanish trio channel Blur, Beach House, and 90s guitar pop into a shimmering anthem that demands your attention.

There's a specific frequency that the best indie pop operates on — a warm, hazy register where melody is king and every chord change feels like sunlight cutting through overcast skies. Left Iris have found that frequency, and on their latest single "Heart and Soul" (feat. Susie Heart), they've tuned it to perfection.

The Dublin-based Irish-Spanish trio — led by guitarist and vocalist Finn O'Reilly — have been building something quietly formidable since their formation in 2023. Six singles, a sold-out headline show at Dublin's Workman's Club, international dates in London, Amsterdam, and Belfast, and a debut EP (Love Songs) that amassed over 100,000 streams within weeks of its February 2026 release. For a band operating entirely on independent terms, those numbers carry real weight.

The Sound: Where Shoegaze Meets Britpop

Left Iris sit at an intersection that few bands navigate this confidently. Their sonic palette draws from the saturated dreamscapes of My Bloody Valentine and Beach House, but their songwriting instincts pull from a distinctly British lineage — the melodic punch of Blur, the nervous energy of Supergrass, the understated grace of The Sundays.

"Heart and Soul" is the clearest distillation of this identity yet. Built around a jaunty twelve-string guitar hook that Finn describes as arriving almost accidentally during a casual playing session, the track evolved into something far more deliberate — a three-and-a-half minute masterclass in layered guitar pop.

The collaboration with Dublin-based Polish singer-songwriter Susie Heart adds a textural depth that elevates the track beyond Left Iris's previous work. Their voices interlock with an ease that suggests a musical partnership built on genuine trust, not just studio convenience. Finn engineered and produced Susie's debut EP Journey Through the Shadow, and that shared history is audible in every harmony.

From Love Songs to Heart and Soul

The band's debut EP Love Songs was a long-gestating project — two years of meticulous writing and rewriting, with Finn admitting to a perfectionist streak that delayed the release well past its original launch date. "It took forever," he told Post-Burnout in a recent interview, acknowledging the tension between artistic objectivity and emotional attachment.

That "Heart and Soul" arrived just two months after the EP signals a shift in creative confidence. Where Love Songs was an accumulation of careful revision, this single feels spontaneous, immediate — the sound of a band that's stopped second-guessing itself.

The production is cleaner, more assured. The guitars shimmer rather than obscure. The melodies sit front and center, unafraid of their own catchiness. It's the kind of progression that separates bands who release music from bands who build a career.

Why Left Iris Matter Right Now

Dublin's indie scene has produced consistently interesting music over the past few years, but Left Iris occupy a lane that feels uniquely their own. They're not chasing the post-punk revival that dominates so much of the current guitar music conversation. Instead, they're reaching back to an era of guitar pop that prioritized melody, texture, and emotional directness — and filtering it through a contemporary dream pop sensibility that keeps it from feeling nostalgic.

Their live reputation is growing at pace. Beyond the sold-out Workman's Club show, they've played the Hope and Anchor and The Victoria Dalston in London, Oedipus Brewing in Amsterdam, and venues across Cork, Galway, and Belfast. 2026 will see debut shows in France and Germany, a live EP, and their biggest Dublin headline show to date.

With their most-streamed track "Georgia" sitting at over 25,000 plays and "Synthia" at 19,000+, the streaming numbers are catching up to the live momentum. "Heart and Soul" — already at 1,000+ streams within weeks of release — has the melodic accessibility to push those figures significantly higher.

The Verdict

Left Iris are a band operating with clarity of vision at exactly the right moment. "Heart and Soul" isn't just their best single — it's a statement of intent from a group that understands the difference between making music and building something that lasts.

If you're looking for dream pop with substance, guitar music with actual melodies, and an independent band worth investing in before the rest of the industry catches on — Left Iris should be at the top of your list.
